How To Help
Family promise is financed through donations, grants and fundraising events. We welcome financial and volunteer support from individuals, faith communities, businesses, clubs and civic organizations.
- Become a host or support congregation
- Arrange for a speaker from Family Promise to address your group or organization
- Volunteer
- Donate needed in-kind items (see list below)
- Make a monetary donation:
- Mail a personal check to: P.O. Box 40881, Mobile, Alabama 36640
- Online donation using a Credit Card, bank account, on PayPal – This option is especially easy if you already have a PayPal account. But don't worry if you don't have one – it isn't necessary. Just use your Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express Card. This is 100% secure.
In-Kind Items
Family Promise gladly accepts in-kind donations for our Day Center. The following items are used by our guests daily, and are greatly appreciated:
- Baby Diapers (all sizes) and Baby Wipes
- Copy Paper, Pens, and Pencils
- Hygiene Products (such as deodorant, soap and shampoo)
- Toilet Paper and Paper Towels
- Laundry Detergent and Cleaning Supplies
- Adult and Children Hair Products, Combs and Brushes
Clothing Items
We are not able to accept donations of clothing. However, when you donate your clothing items to the Goodwill Easter Seals Good Samaritan Donation Program and list Family Promise on the Donation Referral Card, Goodwill will mail us vouchers that we can distribute to our families. The need for vouchers is tremendous and they are always needed.
Partner with Us
Family Promise has a need for additional host and support churches. If you're interested in Family Promise but your church is not a host or support church, please encourage your congregation to become involved! We have volunteer speakers who will schedule a visit with your congregation to share the story of Family Promise. Learn more >
Our greatest need is for overnight hosts. Our shelter program operates 365 days a year 24 hours a day – there is always a volunteer opportunity! Volunteering to stay overnight in one of our host congregations assists our Interfaith Hospitality Network in a tremendous way and truly makes a difference in the lives of the homeless families with children we serve! Without overnight volunteers, we cannot offer our shelter program.
Volunteer
Family Promise of Mobile depends on volunteers to operate. Volunteer to assist one our host congregations in our Interfaith Hospitality Network:
- Prepare nutritious, hot meals
- Setup hospitality rooms for guests
- Load cots onto and off the Interfaith Hospitality Network trailer
- Serve as dinner hosts (5-7pm); evening hosts (7-9pm); and overnight hosts (9am - 7pm)
