Who We Are

The mission of Family Promise of Coastal Alabama is to provide temporary shelter, related services and nurturing support to families as they work to achieve and sustain independence.

Across Mobile County, 90,000 households are forced to spend more than 30% of their income on housing, leaving them vulnerable to financial hardship.

In areas where housing costs are high, some families with low income are forced into sub-standard living conditions such as housing with no kitchen or plumbing or that is structurally unsound.

Life without a home is a life without basic necessities, safety or much hope for the future.

Our Story

In the early 2000s, Mobile's Homeless Coalition spearheaded the formation of an emergency housing resource for families. They brought the idea of a community-based approach to Government Street Presbyterian Church who, subsequently, gave a two year grant to fuel the project.  The Interfaith Hospitality Network (later renamed Family Promise of Coastal Alabama) became a reality in South Alabama in the summer of 2003. In response to the needs of our community, we added affordable housing services in 2015.

We are an affiliate of the national organization, Family Promise. As part of a national organization our agency has the advantage of national research, programs, training and other resources that help further our work.

We are here because we believe every family deserves a home.  Every community can make that happen.
